The Problem
Addiction is a complex disease that is often associated with other conditions. Failure to adequately address all connected problems makes many addiction treatment programs ineffective.
Common disorders that occur in people suffering from Substance Use Disorders at a higher rate than in the general population include Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Attention Deficit Disorder. All of these are associated with worse outcomes, increased morbidity and mortality, worse symptoms, and the need for more treatment.

Appropriate treatment of these co-occuring conditions results in improved outcomes but:
- Most treatment programs using opioid maintenance treatment are focused specialty programs that cannot branch out to treat co-occurring conditions.
- Psychiatric providers generally exclude patients with substance use disorders.
At Addiction Centers of America we use the full array of tools available to address and manage co-occurring disorders as well as substance use.
Our providers are experts in treating the disease of addiction. They have the experience, ability, and willingness to use treatments that other providers may not be comfortable with.
